My talk with R.A. Salvatore

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Three days ago, I took a bold step to further develop my literary career. I called R.A. Salvatore at his home. This was a “cold” call - he had never met me. I certainly was not expecting much; however I was pleasantly surprised. He picked up on the third ring. I introduced myself and told him I was trying to publish my first novel. He was most helpful. He talked to me for about 10 minutes, until his editor called and he had to take the important call. :)

It made me feel good!

On Writing

Friday, July 20th, 2007

You ever notice how legalese is so long. It is the opposite of fantasy writing. They use as many words as possible to cover every single, silly possbility, often with the intention of hiding something that they do not want seen.

Health

I have inherited a pathetic immune system: It is weak when I need it to be strong, and strong when I need it to be weak. :)

The latter is in regard to the over-response to allergens, while the former concerns opportunitics pathogens.

Smarter than a 5th Grader

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

I do not really watch much tv, only when eating dinner really. This silly show on Fox was on called - Smarter than a 5th Grader. It is a game show with children and an adult contestant. I was amazed to find that I kept watching after I ate my dinner. I liked it! The show was hillarious! They had a CFO of a company who was a complete moron. The first question I saw was: if so-and-so works three days a week, how many times has he worked in 11 weeks. It was so stupid the guy was actually worried about it. However, he did not know about the Erie Canal. :) Wow!  He managed to walk away with $2500 I think. The next two contestants were not as lucky.

The next contestant was a high school teacher from New Jersey. He brought along three of his students from the football team he coached. He started off getting the first question wrong. True or false: Are birds mammals? He guessed true! ROFL!!!
Oh I was LMAO!!!

He did manage to get the Gold Rush right, since he taught this in school, and he knew about the 49ers from football. LOL

He had one more chance but blew it. Well, he thought Kilimanjaro was in Asia. The fifth grader thought the same, so she was no help.

The third guy was literally a rocket-scientist, allegedly their smartest contestant ever. He was overconfident. True or False: Is Vermont one of the original 13 colonies. He was quick to say that it was a New England state, therefore, it had to be true. -lol

I am happy to say I knew that the answer was false. So right off, the guy has one wrong. He then was unable to guess which of the Great Lakes bordered Indiana. I must admit I was a bit hard-pressed to come up with the answer. He got it wrong. I think he said Lake Erie.

Well, it looks like I have a new show to watch. :D
